Can I use the same domain for my subaccounts?



Yes!

How you go about doing this will depend ultimately what you are trying to achieve.

However, there are some common situations we come across with ActiveDEMAND users and we'll cover some of those here.

NOTE: to secure landing pages and forms over SSL with a custom domain name, you will need SSL Whitelabeling from ActiveDEMAND. Please contact support for more information. This article assumes you intend to whitelable all account URLs (example: the default setup of clientname.activedemand.com is not being used for pages).

This article will help you setup accounts where:



All of your various client's landing pages/URL's live on your company's domain name, and emails are sent from your client's email address. This would be the ultimate form of whitelabeling ActiveDEMAND under your company's name.

Ex. Page URLs: client1.yourcompany.com, client2.yourcompany.com for pages
Ex. Email Addresses: client1@client1domain.com, 'client2@client2domain.com'

All of your subaccounts use the same domain, just slightly different URLs on the same domain. They are all also sending from the same email sending domain name.
Ex: You have a client with 10 different locations and one website. Each location has it's own section on the same website, so you have 10 different subaccounts in ActiveDEMAND. You want to engage with contacts depending on the location, but still want to keep all URL's and email addresses the same.

All of your subaccounts use the same domain, just slightly different URLs on the same domain. Each account however sends from a different domain name.
Ex: You have a client with 10 different locations and one website. Each location has it's own section on the same website, so you have 10 different subaccounts in ActiveDEMAND. You want to engage with contacts depending on the location, but still want to keep all URL's the same only using a different email address to send from on each account.

Scenario 1: Using your company's domain for all of your client subaccounts



Some ActiveDEMAND agencies want to have all the login URL's and public facing landing pages appear under their domain name for their clients. However, emails will be sent using the client's email address. If this is you, then here's how you set this up.

As per the note at the beginning of the article, contact support to get SSL Whitelabeling for your agency account if you have not done so already.

When creating/editing a client's subaccount, navigate to Administration > Account Settings > Account Setup. Replace the fields as shown in the format below and click 'Save Account'. You will need permissions to edit Advanced Settings. If you do not see these, ask an administrator on your account.


Find your DNS settings

Locate the 'View Whitelabeling' button on the same page after you saved the account and click it.


Locate White lebeling

The following screen should appear. These CNAME records need to be set on two domains. Yours and your client's domain. The first two records go on your domain name's DNS settings, while the last three go on your client's DNS settings.


Locate CNAME's

You are now done. The green check boxes might take a few minutes to appear but usually it's pretty quick. If you are having troubles, consider checking your CNAME records on MXToolBox.com/SuperTool

Scenario 2: Using your client's domain for all of their subaccounts



In this case, you have one client but they have multiple ActiveDEMAND accounts. This is common with companies that have a single website but multiple locations, like the senior living market. In this configuration all emails from all accounts will be sent using the same email sending domain (the same domain as their website).

As per the note at the beginning of the article, contact support to get SSL Whitelabeling for your client's domain if you have not done so already.
Ex: your client will have several ActiveDEMAND accounts that all use clientdomain.com

When creating/editing a client's subaccount, navigate to Administration > Account Settings > Account Setup. Replace the fields as shown in the format below and click 'Save Account'. You will need permissions to edit Advanced Settings. If you do not see these, ask an administrator on your account.

Locate CNAME setup

Locate the 'View Whitelabeling' button on the same page after you saved the account and click it.

The following screen should appear. These CNAME records need to be set on your client's domain name


Set you DNS according to these CNAME's

Repeat step 2 for each new account. You do not have to set any more CNAME records in your client's DNS settings. You can check them however by going to step 3 in each account to verify all CNAMEs are showing the green check boxes.
You are now done. The green check boxes might take a few minutes to appear but usually it's pretty quick. If you are having troubles, consider checking your CNAME records on MXToolBox.com/SuperTool

Scenario 3: Using the same domain but different email domain on each sub account



As per the note at the beginning of the article, contact support to get SSL Whitelabeling for your client's domain if you have not done so already.
Ex: your client will have several ActiveDEMAND accounts that all use clientdomain.com

When creating/editing a client's subaccount, navigate to Administration > Account Settings > Account Setup. Replace the fields as shown in the format below and click 'Save Account'. You will need permissions to edit Advanced Settings. If you do not see these, ask an administrator on your account.


CNAME setup

Locate the 'View Whitelabeling' button on the same page after you saved the account and click it.

4, The following screen should appear. These CNAME records need to be set on your client's website domain name once, and the domain name being used to send emails for each account


Add CNAME's to you DNS

Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each sub account.

NOTE: once you set the Landing Page Domain and the corresponding CNAMEs, you won't have to do it again as this will be the same for each account. You will however have to set the three CNAMEs for the Email Sending Domain each time as the email address used in each sub account will be different.
